New DeScriptors Rules Add-ons AKA Variations

We have just published two new Variations (what we are now calling optional and variant rules for DeScriptors RPG) in the form of business card RPG expansions for the Pleasure-not-Business Card RPG Jam ending March 30, 2021.  They are:

• DeScriptors: Craft
• DeScriptors: Survive

In addition, we've also distilled the core DeScriptors RPG rules down a bit and retooled them to create DeScriptors: I Mean Business. Also released for the  business card RPG game jam, this one's a little different: it's a full RPG, optimized for 1-on-1 play, and adding in high-stakes relationship drama! This one's also a little different because it's considered an "Ashcan" release: the rules are solid and should make for an excellent gaming session, and it's not hard to tweak it for more than just 1-on-1 play, too. Just add a few more Tough Challenges!

BETA Rules and Ashcans: DeScriptors Variations

All of these releases are setup in a new way for DeScriptors: your support helps to fund future iterations. What this means is that as these Variations get support from folks like you, and hopefully some feedback, we have set milestones for them to be moved into later stages of development. For Craft and Survive, this means further playtesting and refinement, followed by incorporation into full settings like our DeScriptors: Definitive Edition and Realms Volume 1 releases. Both of those cases as well as I Mean Business will see additional rules development and guidance when they hit those milestones, so it's not just a repackaging of what's already there: it's more like putting them into a final draft, adding a setting (in most cases), and adding significant guidance in how to use them in play. That's what we learn from playtesting, after all!

What About Definitive Edition?

What does this mean for DeScriptors: Definitive Edition?

These variations will get refined and then added to the optional rules in DeScriptors: Definitive Edition in the near future, regardless of the support levels. But, if we hit the milestones, that means they get considerably more attention, and likely find that additional guidance and setting material incorporation in future releases like later volumes of DeScriptors: Realms or all new supplements.
